Currently in 2011, a team must score a minimum of 295 points to earn their spot at the World Finals in Puebla, Mexico. The Escaramuza perform a perfectly structured routine of 12 specific exercises with predetermined values, which a group of highly qualified, certified judges evaluate and score. Each exercise has an individual value depending on the level of difficulty. Each routine is variable with a maximum score of approximately 350 points. Each routine also includes 2 "puntas", which are when the mounted rider begins at at a complete stand-still on one end of the arena, then goes immediately into a full gallop for approximatly 75 meters, and abruptly brings the horse to a complete halt. The quality of the reigning is evaluated, and the distance of the slide from the initial stop to the final landing is measured. These points are added to the total team score, which could give them up to an additional 30 points.
